A water well with your name plaque
On request your water well is fitted with a plaque bearing the name of your choice – for example in memory of a deceased relative. A well counts as sadaqah jariyah: an ongoing charity that keeps giving for as long as people drink from it.
Location and photo proof of your well
Once your well is finished we document it with its location and photographs. Our well map shows you where ILA Europe e.V. has already built wells.

Depending on the region, ground conditions and weather, building a water well takes anywhere from a few weeks to several months. We contact you as soon as your well is complete.
ILA Europe e.V. builds water wells in several countries across Africa and in Pakistan. The exact location is chosen based on the greatest need and what is feasible on the ground.
Yes. Simply provide the name when you donate and, on request, the well will carry a plaque with that name.
Experts first carry out a ground survey to establish the quality and depth of the water source. Where the water table is close to the surface, a caisson well about 1.5 metres wide is dug 20–40 metres down to reach the water; where it lies deeper, a drilling rig is used. Pipes and a pump are then installed and the well is finished in reinforced concrete so it lasts.
In our collective well project you contribute as many shares as you like instead of funding a whole well on your own. The names of all shareholders are put on the well and read out one by one at the opening, and the opening video is sent to every donor.
Yes. When the well is finished a video is made, including the opening prayer and speech, and shared with you — for example via WhatsApp. We also pass on photographs and the location of the well.
In many parts of Africa clean drinking water is hard to reach. A single well gives thousands of people access to safe water, reduces water-borne disease, supports local farming and livestock, and keeps whole villages from having to move away.
